The Northwest University Sokoto (NWUS) has rolled out plans to explore collaboration with international tertiary institutions, including the University of East London.
This exploration came to the fore when the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mukhtar Umar Bunza, received in audience a lecturer and Head of Undergraduate Programme of the Department of the Computer Science and Digital Technologies at the School of Architecture, Computing and Engineering of the University of East London (UEL), Dr Bilyaminu Auwal Romo on Tuesday.
Dr Romo, an indigene of Sokoto state and a beneficiary of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko’s scholarship, said he could facilitate collaborations with not only the UEL but also a network of other tertiary institutions across the globe.

According to the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings (SDG Focus), UEL was historically ranked highly for gender equality — specifically 8th in the world and 2nd in the UK for gender equality in the relevant SDG category.
The meeting discussed general collaboration with priority areas of Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Web3.
Expressing his determination to build NWUS into a home of knowledge that speaks to the world, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mukhtar Umar Bunza, said his vision is rooted in people rather than buildings alone.
He explained that “a truly great university is shaped by curious minds, dedicated teachers, and an environment that encourages ideas, research, and honest dialogue.”
According to him, “NWUS is being nurtured to raise graduates who are confident, skilled, and able to stand shoulder to shoulder with their peers anywhere in the world, while still remaining deeply connected to the needs of their communities.”
Prof. Bunza added that turning this vision into reality demands shared commitment and a positive mindset from all stakeholders. He called for perseverance, collaboration, and belief in what can be achieved through hard work and clear purpose.
By staying focused and united, the Vice Chancellor expressed confidence that “NWUS would grow steadily into a respected centre of learning and innovation, whose influence and reputation extend well beyond its immediate environment.”
