The National president of High Level Women Advocates, HILWA, Mrs Azuka Menkiti has disclosed that the enrollment of girl-child in public schools is encouraging even though thousands are still out of school.
She said this in Gusau over the weekend, during the national appreciation and presentation of award to stakeholders in the campaign on massive enrolment of girl child in the north.
According to her, HILWA as an NGO that is doing everything possible to stop children from street hawking.
She maintained that HILWA, in collaboration with UNICEF and Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board, have successfully campaigned for increase in girl-child enrollment and better access.
Menkiti further said the educational sector, especially the model initiatives on girl child component of education, introduced by governor Bello Mohammed was impressive.
“Our organisation is impressed with the level of increased girl-child enrolment in public schools. It has enhanced chances of having access to quality education”.
In his address, the Chairman of Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board, Abubakar Aliyu Maradun said his board was up and doing in creating an enabling environment for teaching and learning so as to encourage enrollment of out of school children.
During the occasion, Sultan Saad Abubakar, Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Muhammad Mera, Emir of Anka, Alhaji Attahiru Ahmed and former Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi were presented with awards.
Others who received similar awards were wife of former Bauchi State governor, Hadiza Mohammed Abubakar, wife of Sokoto State governor, Mariya Aminu Tambuwal and wife of Kebbi state governor, Dr Zainab Shinkafi among others.
