Troops, ISWAP firepower leaves 22 vehicles burnt in Borno

By Zagazola Makama

ASHENEWS reports that at least, 20 vehicles were burnt when armed insurgents broke into the compound of a humanitarian aid organization in Monguno, Borno state, in the Northeast Nigeria.

ASHENEWS gathered that insurgents of the Islamic State West Africa Provence (ISWAP) were responsible for the attack which took place at about 1am on Thursday.

An Intelligence Sources told Zagazola Makama, a Counter Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst in the Lake Chad, that the terrorists had targeted aid workers.

According to the sources, after failing to find any of the workers in the compound, they burnt 18 vehicles mostly SUVs and vandalised two other vehicles.

He said terrorists also attempted to cart away three 4X4 Hilux vehicles but for the firepower of the Nigerian troops of Sector 3 Operation Hadin Kai who engaged them in a heavy gun battle.

The source added that the terrorists abandoned the vehicle they used during intense exchange of fire with the Special Forces  before retreating.

Monguno is located near the Lake Chad region of Nigeria.

Over the years, ISWAP has targeted the town on numerous other occasions with the aid of internal informants.
