Mr Danladi Abubakar, the Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, on Wednesday said that the government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with flood experts from the Netherlands, to mitigate flood disaster in the state.
Abubakar stated this in a statement issued in Dutse.
He said the agreement was signed between the Jigawa government, KWT and Aveco De Bondt (Dutch flood experts) at the Nigerian Embassy in Hague on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.
The event was witnessed by Dr Eniola Olaitan-Ajayi, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Netherlands, Chairman of Nigeria-Dutch Business Association and other stakeholders.
The statement quoted Gov. Badaru Abubakar as saying the partnership would bring lasting solution to the flood disaster.
“Flooding in Jigawa has remained a major setback for the economy and caused a lot of hardship to the people.
“We are committed to finding a lasting solution to this problem and we are confident that the expertise of KWT and AVECO DE BONDT, will be instrumental in achieving this goal.” the governor said.
The statement further quoted the Dutch partners as assuring effective collaboration with local technical team to control flooding in the state.
