ASHENEWS reports that the Niger State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the killing of a 14-year-old girl.

It was gathered that the victim, identified as Ubaida Surajo was killed on the 5th of June in Izom, in Gurara local government area of Niger State.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Wasiu Abiodun in a statement issued in Minna said that the suspects identified as Nuhu Mohammed, aged 26 years, and Sani Usman 22 years old claimed to have killed the victim following a misunderstanding with her mother.

“During interrogation, Nuhu who was a tenant in the same residence confessed that in the early hours of the same date, there was an altercation between him and the deceased mother, about her missing sum of ninety thousand nairas, as he was accused to have stolen the money.

“He claimed that the accusation got him angry, consequently, he invited his friend Sani to the house and attacked the daughter (the deceased) immediately after the girl returned from school. He confessed further that the girl was injured on the head and strangulated to death by the duo.

“He said that they immediately left the scene, locked the house gate from outside, and went away until when the mother came back from the market before the incident was discovered,” the statement said.

The statement added that operatives of the command recovered exhibits including six knives, two cutlasses, a digger as well as a blood-stained cloth suspected to belong to Nuhu.

It further said that the suspects are currently being investigated and will be arraigned in court for prosecution as soon as the investigation is concluded.
