Security operatives have arrested the Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Igboho in Cotonou, Benin Republic, DailyTracker has reported.
Reports say he was arrested by security forces in Benin Republic at an airport in Cotonou on Monday night.
Igboho’s arrest is coming three weeks after the Department of State Services, DSS, declared him wanted for allegedly stockpiling arms. He has since denied the allegation.
A source told DailyTracker that Igboho would be repatriated to Nigeria on Tuesday (today) from Benin Republic.
“He was arrested in Cotonou while he tried to travel out on Monday night. His destination was Germany. The security forces in Benin Republic should repatriate him to Nigeria on Tuesday,” the source said.
Contacted, a member of Igboho’s legal team, Pelumi Olajengbesi told DailyTracker that he would speak with the lead counsel, Yomi Aliyu (SAN), and revert.
Recall that Igboho’s residence in Ibadan was raided by the DSS on July 1, 2021 where 12 of his aides were arrested and two others killed in gun duel.
