Kebbi state governor, Senator Abubakar Bagudu has vowed that the state government will take urgent measures to ensure that adequate protection of all law abiding residents in the state.

A statement by the spokesperson to the Governor, Yahaya Sarki made available to ASHENEWS on Sunday said Bagudu spoke at the Magaba community, in Danko Wasagu local government of the state, where innocent persons as well as some security personnel were killed by armed bandits.

“My administration will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that we do the needful in this direction. This, we shall do, in collaboration with the security agencies, Traditional Rulers and all the key stakeholders.

“As usual, we will not handle the issue of the security of lives and properties of all law abiding citizens with laxity, for them to freely and peacefully conduct all meaningful socio-economic activities,” the governor said.

According to Bagudu, the state government would facilitate urgent deployment of more policemen to further guarantee the safety of lives and property.

“It could be recalled that about two hundred additional policemen were recently deployed. This is in addition to more security measures we will not disclose here.

“These corgent measures are aimed at combating the wanton killings ,maiming, destruction of properties and displacement of people.

“This is to enable the people to urgently restart their lives and peacefully conduct all their farming and other socioeconomic activities,” the governor said.

He noted that the state government had not outrightly banned the activities of the self volunteer group (Yan Sakai), because, “It is a good system, though infiltrated by some unpatriotic and heinous bad eggs.

“We should collectively work , dialogue, be tolerant with each other and be peaceful and law abiding.

“Ths is to collectively find our common enemies, the bandits. It’s also by doing this , irrespective of any religious or ethnic differences , that we will have sustenable peace and unity.”

Bagudu futher warned the people against rumour mongering and always be their brothers’ keepers.

He announced that the state government would send relief assistance to the affected victims.

Bagudu also made a stop over at Ribah General hospital to sympathise with two victims who sustained injury during the attack .

At Magaba village, the governor with his entourage listened to different narrations from some eyewitness and residents who recounted their ordeal from the attackers.

According to Imam Abdullahi Baba, Aminu Dadu, PRO of the Farmers Association of the area, Adamu Magaji, Pastor Emmanuel Gavo who recounted their ordeal, explained how the attackers on motorcycles killed six people at Gulumbo, five at Magaba and three at Matseri villages.

They said the attackers raided shops and carted away whatever they could lay their hands on, especially handsets and their livestock.

The residents, while thanking the governor for his concern and sympathy over the visit, begged for deployment of more security personnel to the area.

Those on the entourage who accompanied the governor on the visit while calling for calm, admonished the residents to keep faith in God as authorities take measures to deal with the situation.

Member representating Zuru/Fakai /Danko Wasagu/Sakaba Federal Constituency, Kabiru Tukur promised residents that a security outpost would soon be provided at Ayuw village.

Senator Bala Ibn NaAllah, representing Kebbi South told the gathering that the visit by the governor with high powered delegation to the area, was a testimony to his concern on the issue.

He said the governor and other stakeholders were taking bold measures to bolster security in the area while assuring them insecurity would come to an end in the area with fervent prayers and measures adopted by the government.

In the same vein, Muhammadu Magoro, an elder statesman, appealed for calm while assuring them that governor Bagudu with stakeholders in the area would not rest until insecurity in the area becomes history.

Among those who accompanied the governor were Muhammadu Magoro, Senator Bala Ibn NaAllah, Senator representing Kebbi South, Kabiru Tukur, member representating Zuru/Fakai/Danko/Wasagu/Sakaba Federal Constituency, Acting Head of Service, Alhaji Sufyanu Bena, Special Adviser on Security, Rtd Garba Rabiu Kamba, local government chairmen of Zuru, Danko Wasagu and Fakai, traditional leaders and politicians.
