The Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate vying to occupy the Nasarawo Njereng Constituency seat in the Adamawa House of Assembly, Mrs Halitta Gibson says if elected she will ensure free medical care to all pregnant mothers in the area.
Gibson made the pledge on Wednesday during an interview with newsmen in Mayo-Belwa local government area.
She said the initiative would be part of her constituency outreach.
“I will make judicious utilisation of my constituency allowance to bring socio-economic development to my people,” she said.
Gibson said that as a woman and a retired health worker she knew the sufferings pregnant women were going through, especially during child birth and child rearing.
According to her, she will also use her position to contribute positively, especially through the enactment of laws that will be of direct benefit to the state.
The SDP candidate said that empowerment programme for women and youth was another priority area, going by the challenges of unemployment in the constituency.
She said that she would engage professionals in various skills to train people on various vocations as part of her economic empowerment initiative with a view to generating employment.
“Our farmers will also be empowered with farming input to promote food security.
“Majority of our people are farmers and with the challenge of climate change they need to be provided with improved variety of seeds, fertiliser, agrochemicals,” she said.
Gibson said that she would strive to enhance the supply of potable water, electricity and education, stressing that tribal or religious affinity all would be satisfied.
According to her, she has recently donated no fewer than 12 hand-pumped boreholes as part of her personal contribution to the community.
“Some of the benefiting communities are Njeran, Mayo, Wuro Jama’a, among others,” she said.
Gibson also said that she would pay attention to the development of education by increasing access and provision of scholarships to indigent students.
She lamented that pupils were being taught under trees, especially in Binyere village and the other neighbouring communities.
