The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to reviving all abandoned garment clusters initiated by the administration of former Governor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The Commissioner for Local Government, Mohammed Tajo-Othman, made this known in an interview on Friday in Kano. He expressed disappointment over the dilapidated state of the centers across the 44 local government areas, noting that the projects, originally intended to create jobs and boost the state’s economy, had been neglected by the previous administration.
Tajo-Othman emphasized that the current administration, under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, is determined to revitalize the garment industries in all 44 local government areas.
“The goal of the project is to provide employment opportunities for the youth of Kano and stimulate economic growth. The plan is for the industries to produce school uniforms for both public and private schools,” he stated.
The commissioner expressed confidence in Governor Yusuf’s leadership, assuring that the garment industries would be successfully revived under his administration.
Tajo-Othman, recently deployed as commissioner, reiterated his readiness to “hit the ground running” as directed by the governor.
“The governor has instructed us to ensure that every part of the state becomes livable, with a particular focus on rural areas,” he said.
He also highlighted ongoing efforts to extend the dividends of democracy to all parts of the state, especially rural communities. One key initiative includes the construction of five-kilometer roads equipped with solar streetlights in various local governments, a project expected to significantly improve residents’ lives.
According to the commissioner, these initiatives reflect Governor Yusuf’s dedication to developing Kano and enhancing the well-being of its citizens.
“The projects will not only improve infrastructure but also create jobs and boost economic activities across the local government areas,” he added.
Tajo-Othman reiterated the administration’s unwavering commitment to uplifting the living standards of Kano’s grassroots population, ensuring inclusive development across the state.
