The African Union has elected the President of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, as the new chairman of the African Union for 2024.
The Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) elected him to take over from President Azali Assoumani of the Union of Comoros, who was the Chairperson for 2023.

His selection took place on Saturday, February 17 during the ongoing 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
