ASHENEWS reports that the Niger State governor, Mohammed Bago has announced the renaming of the Mallam Abubakar Imam International Airport Minna.

The Airport is now known as the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, Minna.

The Niger state commissioner for Industry, Trade, and Investment, Aminu Takuma represented by Dr. Isah Adamu made this known while briefing journalists on Monday’s scheduled visit of the president to Minna, the Niger State capital.

This online platform reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in June 2023 renamed fifteen federal airports after notable Nigerians as part of reforms in the Aviation sector.

A memo by the Federal Ministry of Aviation dated June 1, 2023, and signed by Mrs Joke Olatunji for the Director of Airport Operations renamed among fourteen others, the Minna International Airport to the Mallam Abubakar Imam International Airport.

Giving a breakdown of the president’s schedule for Monday earlier, the commissioner said that the President will after inspecting the airport commission the airport as well as the agro-free trade zone and the mechanized farm equipment.

He added that the president will also lay the foundation for the new hajj terminal within the remodeled airport.

Speaking further, the Niger state commissioner for agriculture, Musa Bosso noted that the airport will function as a cargo airport.

Bosso said that the Bago-led administration, with the proposed commissioning, has demonstrated his administration’s commitment to the agricultural revolution of the federal government, having been chosen as the pilot state for the project.

Similarly, the Niger State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Binta Mamman said that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the smooth visit of the president.

“Originally a federal government initiative, the project faced delays prompting the governor-led administration to assume control in ensuring its expedited completion after due consultation with relevant stakeholders.

“The terminal is now ready for completion, offering an alternative to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, given the state’s proximity to the nation’s capital,” she said.
