Yobe state governor, Mai Mala-Buni has urged the North-East Development Commission (NEDC) to step up entrepreneurship program to empower youths in the state.
Buni made the call while receiving the commission’s management team on a visit to the state on Saturday.
Represented by his Deputy, Idi Gubana, the governor enjoined the commission to build and equip entrepreneurship skills centres in the state.
“I appeal to you that all our tertiary institutions in the region to be provided with training centres where students will be graduating as self-employed.
“Since we have higher number of population and the demand for labour is also getting higher, training the youth to be self-reliance is paramount,” Buni said.
He said the saturated employment space in the country could not accommodate the unemployed youths, as government could not accommodate them.
The governor lauded the commission for execution of viable projects across the state.
Earlier, Mr Paul Tarfa, the NEDC Chairman, said they were on an inspection tour of the ongoing projects by the commission and to strengthen relationship with the state government.
He also assured of the commission’s support to the state government.
