ASHENEWS reports that the Niger state government says it is set to hold the first-ever green summit in the country.

The event, scheduled to hold on the 24th and 25th of October, 2023, in Minna, the Niger state capital will be convened with the theme “Sustainable Future: Harnessing Green Assets and Innovation for Niger State’s Prosperity.”

A statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim noted that the governor disclosed this while briefing journalists in Abuja.

He said that the summit is in response to the global challenges of environmental degradation, climate change impact, insecurity, and the growing need for sustainable solutions.

According to the statement, the summit which targets no fewer than 500 participants across various sectors is also in line with Nigeria’s pledge under the Paris Agreement which is the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“The Governor further disclosed that the summit will among other things unveil the Niger State Green Economy blueprint to guide all developmental choices of actions that would lead to a greener, sustainable, and prosperous future for the people of the State.

“The governor noted that the event will open up the State to make good use of its arable land in aggregating cash crops and low-hanging fruits while also reiterating the State Government’s resolve to make the State a food hub.

“On the issue of security, the Governor said all measures have been put in place to ensure that Niger State is rid of all criminals and miscreants bent on causing mayhem on the people of the State,” the statement said.
