The Director General of the Standard Organisation of Nigeria, SON, Mr Faruk Salim has disclosed that the organization would build a beffiting laboratory in Sokoto.
The director general spoke with newsmen shortly after he paid courtesy visit to Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal at the Government House on Monday.
According to him, the laboratory first of its kind in the North, would be use to test the standards of products, instead of taking them to Lagos.
“The laboratory will be the first of its kind in northern part of the country. When it is completed, testing of products would be done here instead of Lagos,” Salim told newsmen.
He stressed that SON was committed to the production of products that were of best standard.
Meanwhile, in fulfilling the pledge of Sokoto state government of providing land for the establishment of the laboratory, Sokoto governor Aminu Tambuwal, laid the foundation of SON’s northern office complex and laboratory.
At the ceremony, Tambuwal commended President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Mr Faruk Salim as SON’s DG.
“I have the confidence that the new director general will do a lot in turning around the fortune of SON, considering his experience and knowledge.
“Therefore, with the current development, our people will fully benefit from the mandate of establishing the organisation to ensure preparation of standard.
“As such, we generally appreciate the new SON DG for choosing Sokoto state to deliver an important project that will uplift the standard of our state commercial activities,” he said.
