The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has extended Eid-el-Kabir greetings to waterways users, operators, and stakeholders across the state.
This was contained in a statement on Tuesday by Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, Special Adviser on Blue Economy to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Emmanuel urged commuters and boat operators to prioritise safety while travelling on inland waterways during the festive period and the ongoing rainy season.
“As Muslims commemorate this season of sacrifice, love and devotion, LASWA urges all commuters and operators to prioritise safety on the waterways,” he said.
He advised passengers to avoid night travel due to reduced visibility and weather-related risks that could affect safe navigation.
“Plan your trips during daylight hours and remain vigilant at all times,” Emmanuel said.
He also urged operators to navigate cautiously, obey safety guidelines, avoid speeding, and check weather conditions before every trip.
“Never compromise safety, as it is a shared responsibility. LASWA mandates all passengers and crew to wear life jackets throughout every journey,” he said.
Emmanuel congratulated Muslim faithful on the Eid-el-Kabir celebration and reaffirmed LASWA’s commitment to safe and efficient waterways transportation across Lagos State.
“LASWA wishes all residents a peaceful and safe Eid-el-Kabir. Please celebrate responsibly and follow safety-first practices on the waterways,” he said.
