The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has responded to several incidents across the state, including fallen containers, road traffic accidents, and fire outbreaks.
The Permanent Secretary of the agency, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed this in a statement made available to reporters on Sunday in Lagos.
Oke-Osanyintolu said a 40-foot container fell from a Mack truck onto a van at Apongbon, inward Eko Bridge, causing severe traffic gridlock.
“Fortunately, no lives were lost, but the incident caused significant traffic congestion. LASEMA and other responders successfully recovered the container,” he said.
In another incident at Barracks, inward Stadium, a truck lost control and fell, blocking a section of the road.
“The driver escaped unhurt, and officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) towed the truck away,” he said.
He added that three vehicles were involved in an accident at 7Up Road, in front of the Governor’s Office. The vehicles included a GAC Jeep, a police Hilux, and a luxury bus. One person sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The Permanent Secretary also reported a fire outbreak at Ajao Estate that destroyed a storey building.
“No lives were lost. Preliminary investigations indicate the fire was caused by a power surge. Emergency responders worked to contain the fire and prevent further damage,” he said.
He further disclosed that another fire incident occurred at CMS Bridge, Landmark Marina Station, involving a truck carrying 10,000 liters of diesel.
“The fire was caused by a mechanical fault. No casualties were recorded, and responders evacuated the truck to avert further risks,” he said.
Oke-Osanyintolu advised residents to exercise caution and promptly report emergencies through the toll-free lines 112 or 767.
