Governors of the 19 northern states, under the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF), have reaffirmed their support for Bola Tinubu, citing ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity and drive development across the region.
The position was reached after a meeting held at the Gombe State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, where the governors pledged closer collaboration with the Federal Government and security agencies to address evolving threats.
Chairman of the forum and Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, who issued the communiqué, said the governors were aligned with the President’s approach to restoring peace and stability, noting that joint efforts were already yielding results.

“The Forum acknowledges and commends the unified efforts of member states in addressing the numerous security and developmental challenges facing the region, noting that these efforts are already producing positive outcomes,” the communiqué stated.
The governors stressed that sustained cooperation with federal authorities remains critical, while urging Nigerians to support the armed forces and other security agencies in ongoing operations.
Beyond security, the forum linked its support for Tinubu to broader development priorities. Governors highlighted plans to strengthen institutional capacity within the NSGF, including the digitisation of its secretariat to improve coordination and policy implementation.
On the economic front, they agreed to engage consultants to boost internally generated revenue by identifying untapped taxable sources across the region. They also backed ongoing federal initiatives, including engagement with the Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology Transfer to support the establishment of the New Nigeria Energy Company (NNEC) under the Sun Africa Project.
The renewed backing comes amid persistent insecurity in northern Nigeria, where banditry, kidnapping and insurgency continue to pose serious challenges.
Recent attacks in Kaduna and Plateau states, which left dozens dead and several abducted, underscore the urgency of coordinated security action. In Plateau, authorities have already imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly incident in Anguwan Rukuba.
The northern governors maintained that stronger alignment with the Tinubu administration is essential to addressing these security concerns while advancing economic recovery and long-term regional development.
