The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Osun Chapter, on Thursday commenced digital registration of farmers across the state.
Mr. Ganiyu Musefiu, Chairman of AFAN Osun, said the initiative, spearheaded by the national body of the association, aims to create a comprehensive database of farmers in the country to better address their needs.
“When all farmers in the state are registered, the government will know our population and can plan and cater to our demands effectively,” he said. “This registration will also help identify real, practicing farmers, enabling the government to engage with them directly.”
It was reported that 400 farmers were trained on digital registration at the AFAN office in Osogbo. The trained farmers, representing different local government areas in the state, will serve as AFAN agents to register other farmers in their communities.
Mr. Tobi Shittu of Grotechnologies Limited, hired by AFAN to conduct the training, explained that the association has created a website where all farmers can register. Each farmer is required to pay N5,000 for an identification card (ID card), which will be produced within seven days and sent to the state chapter office for collection.
Shittu added that all payments can be made online via the AFAN website through money transfer or bank debit cards. Registered agents will then assist other farmers in registering, earning a N100 commission per registration.
He noted that the registration would give farmers access to subsidized farm inputs and federal government intervention programs. Furthermore, the ID card would allow farmers to enjoy AFAN benefits even if they relocate to other states.
