The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) committee set up to assess the health condition of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has requested more time to complete its report.
Counsel to the Department of State Services (DSS), Suraj Sa’ada, SAN, informed Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday that the medical panel had yet to conclude its assignment.

Sa’ada explained that the committee was conducting a thorough assessment and needed an additional week to finalise its findings.
Kanu’s lawyer, Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, did not oppose the request for an extension, and Justice Omotosho consequently adjourned the case to October 16.
It would be recalled that the judge had, in a ruling delivered on September 26, directed the NMA President to constitute a team of medical experts to examine Kanu and determine whether he is fit to continue his ongoing terrorism trial.
