The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) says more than 1.3 million people have been displaced by insecurity in Northwest Nigeria as of February 2025.
IOM Nigeria Chief of Mission, Dimanche Sharon, disclosed this on Monday in Katsina at the launch of an EU-supported Conflict Prevention, Crisis Response and Resilience (CPCRR) project.
She said too many families had been displaced, farms abandoned, and lives disrupted, but praised the resilience of people in Katsina and Zamfara.
The project, she explained, will adopt climate-smart solutions, as 84% of communities in the region depend on agriculture.
EU Ambassador to Nigeria, Gautier Migno, pledged continued partnership with IOM, Mercy Corps, and the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) to address the crisis.
Katsina Governor Dikko Radda described the initiative as a reaffirmation of a shared commitment to heal wounds, restore dignity, and build lasting peace.
