The Federal Government says President Bola Tinubu is focused on finishing all projects in the South-East Region on time. This will help improve roads and support the economy there.
The Minister of Information, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, said this while checking the 88-kilometre Enugu-Abakaliki-Ogoja Federal Road on Friday.
The Minister is visiting Enugu and Ebonyi states to meet citizens and see Federal Government projects.
Idris said this road is one of the important projects President Tinubu is working on in the South-East.
He added that the goal is to improve connections in the South-East. President Tinubu wants to bring benefits of democracy to the people there.
He said the President is working hard to make sure the South-East is not left out of big development projects in Nigeria. This road project is part of that effort.Idris mentioned that they recently saw a big flyover in Enugu State and many new roads.
Now, they are checking work in nearby states and will soon visit other parts of the South-East to see more projects.
He said President Tinubu will make sure these projects in the South-East are finished on time.
The site engineer, Mr Wasiu Femi, said the work involves a lot of earth moving. But because of heavy rains, progress is slow until the rainy season ends.
He said they are doing concrete work and some road surface work now, but earthworks must wait for drier weather.
They are working on paving with a stone base and waiting for the right moisture level before continuing with the pavement.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the Minister and his team started their visits on Thursday by meeting Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah.
They also saw work on the Enugu-Port Harcourt Road, the flyover bridge on Enugu-Abakaliki Road, the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital’s Oncological Centre in Enugu, and other places.
