The University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital in Borno State has named its newly built medical ICT institute after President Bola Tinubu.
The unveiling took place during the 110th general meeting of Chief Medical Directors (CMDs), held in Maiduguri, the state capital, on Tuesday. The event brought together top political leaders and important health sector officials from across Nigeria.
Speaking before the unveiling, the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Professor Ahmed Ahidjo, praised the Federal Government for supporting the project. He said the ICT centre is the first of its kind in the country and will help improve the skills of health workers.
He stated, “The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Ali Muhammad Pate, has shown that a lot can be achieved with dedication. We are now receiving all the support we request from the Federal Government.”
“Today, we are officially opening the first medical ICT centre in Nigeria, and we are naming it after President Tinubu to show our appreciation,” he added.
Professor Ahidjo also mentioned that eight other projects — including health buildings, roads, and other infrastructure — were completed and named after individuals who have made strong contributions to the hospital’s progress.
In his speech, Health Minister Dr. Pate said that healthcare is one of the key focus areas of President Tinubu’s administration.
“In his two years in office, President Tinubu has made health a top priority under his Renewed Hope Agenda,” Pate said. “And now, we are already seeing the results. The President is using the health sector to bring unity to the country.”
He said that nearly every federal health centre now has one or two new federal projects either completed or ongoing.
Dr. Pate praised the Chief Medical Directors for their leadership at hospitals across the nation. He said their efforts are essential to delivering quality healthcare.
“Change is happening, and you, the CMDs, are the ones leading this transformation,” he said.
He added, “It is an honour to be here today. The hospital has rightly chosen to open several important projects, including the ICT centre named after President Tinubu.”
Dr. Pate also thanked the hospital management, the Borno State Government, and the people of Borno for their warm welcome and support.
The event was attended by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, his deputy Usman Kadafur, traditional rulers, lawmakers from the state and national assemblies, and top government officials from both state and federal levels.
