The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) FCT Chapter and the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation will partner to train 150 female journalists on inclusivity and gender balance.

The Chairperson, NAWOJ FCT, Mrs Bassey Ita-Ikpang disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja following a courtesy visit to Mrs Didi Wilson -Jack, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

Wilson-Jack stated that NAWOJ’s training request was in line with one of her six pillars, which include ‘training and retraining’ of workers to improve capacity and output.

She assured the association of her support, pledging to partner with NAWOJ to conduct the training for FCT female journalists.

She said part of her achievements in office include the forthcoming international training that would showcase international resource persons and keynote speakers.

Others, she said, is the annual conference slated for June with over 5,000 participants.

Earlier, Ita-Ikpang congratulated the Head of Service on a well-deserved appointment, urging her to keep the flag of female leadership flying.

“Your elevation to this prestigious position is not only a personal achievement but also an inspiration to many women across the country.

“This shows that your commitment, dedication, and accomplishments so far in office have not gone unnoticed, and we celebrate you today as a symbol of excellence and resilience in public service.

“As NAWOJ, our mandate includes amplifying the voices of women and promoting gender equality in the media and beyond.

She said that the visit was not just for felicitation but to seek strategic collaboration with the office towards creating a platform for projecting the voices of women in leadership.

“We are particularly keen on building a strong partnership that supports mutual goals: visibility for female leadership and inclusive development across all sectors.

“We respectfully appeal to your esteemed office to consider sponsoring a two-day capacity-building training for 150 female journalists from various media houses in the FCT,” she said.

She said the training has the theme, “Workplace Diversification: Advancing Women Journalists’ Role in the Newsroom.”

She said it would equip members with the tools and strategies to thrive in their careers and contribute to national development.

“We believe this training aligns with your ongoing efforts to promote inclusivity, professionalism, and gender balance within the civil service and across government institutions.”
