The Katsina State Institute of Technology and Management (KSITM) has announced its maiden International Conference on the Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Science, Technology, and Mathematics (STEM) Education.
This was disclosed by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr. Muttaqa Darma, during a press briefing at the institute in Katsina.
The event, scheduled for April 2025, will be organized in collaboration with the Katsina State Directorate of Information and Communications Technology (KATDICT) and Alqalam University, Katsina.
Dr. Muttaqa emphasized that KSITM will host at least two international conferences each academic session, aiming to position the institute as a hub for global academic discourse.
Dr. Muttaqa also announced the establishment of a Directorate of Skills Development and Community Services at KSITM.
The new directorate will ensure that every student graduates with at least four life skills, including technical and soft skills, to foster productivity and self-employment.
“The aim is to produce graduates who excel in both knowledge and character. Students will also engage in community service initiatives. To achieve this, the institute will partner with relevant state and federal organizations focused on skills development,” he said.
In a bid to ensure financial sustainability, the Governing Council has set up a committee, led by Prof. Muktar El-Kasim, to explore partnerships and collaborations with relevant organizations.
According to Dr. Muttaqa, this initiative will support strategic projects and promote sustainable growth for the institute.
On staff welfare, the council has promoted 17 academic and 16 non-academic staff while confirming the appointments of eight non-teaching staff to enhance institutional efficiency.
Furthermore, with the tenure of the current Rector set to expire on December 12, 2024, the Deputy Rector, Dr. Hindatu Salisu Abubakar, will serve as Acting Rector pending the appointment of a substantive Rector.
“The position of Bursar also remains vacant. Advertisements for both positions will be published in line with the requirements of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), with the process expected to conclude by December 20, 2024,” Dr. Muttaqa added.
