The national power grid in Nigeria has reportedly collapsed once more, plunging the entire country into darkness.
ASHENEWS reports that this latest incident is part of a troubling pattern that has left millions of Nigerians without electricity, impacting homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure.
The frequent collapses of the national power grid highlight the ongoing struggles in Nigeria’s power sector, which has faced challenges with aging infrastructure, inadequate investment, and operational inefficiencies.
ASHENEWS recalls that in October alone, the grid suffered five separate collapses within a single week, a significant increase in grid failures that underscored the fragile state of Nigeria’s energy supply.
The northwestern and northeastern regions were particularly hard-hit, with total blackouts lasting for 10 consecutive days.
Such extended outages have had severe repercussions on daily life, from the suspension of essential services to disruptions in productivity and economic activities across the country.
During the latest collapse, hourly power generation readings as of 2:35 p.m. indicated that none of the power generation companies were able to supply even a single megawatt of electricity.
This complete cessation of power generation points to systemic issues within the power transmission and distribution networks that urgently need to be addressed.
Following these repeated failures, there have been increased calls for the Nigerian government to expedite reforms and investments in the energy sector, aimed at stabilizing power generation and enhancing grid reliability.
