The immediate past Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Prof. Tijjani Mohammed Bande, has been appointed as the new District Head of Besse.

ASHENEWS recalls that Tijjani Muhammad-Bande was elected President of the 74th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations on 4th June 2019. He is a reputable professor and renowned diplomat.

The The Besse community in Koko-Besse Local Government Area of Kebbi State, on Tuesday, expressed their gratitude when a high-powered delegation led by Muhammadu Usman, Baraden DutsinMari, paid a thank-you visit to Governor Nasir Idris at Government House, Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.

The leader of the delegation, Baraden Dutsinmari, told the Governor that they were at Government House to express their appreciation to the Governor for giving the final approval for bestowing the title to Professor Tijjani Bande. He commended the Governor for having faith in the ability of Prof. Bande, the new District Head of Besse, to deliver.

The District Head of Dutsinmari, who is also the Baraden Dutsinmari, used the opportunity to request more developmental projects in his domain, particularly in education.

Also speaking, Professor Abubakar Abdullahi Bagudo, Bande’s ally, friend, and subordinate, said at the event that they had to commend the people’s Governor for deeming it appropriate to confer the highly revered position on the prolific academician.

Bagudo said that Bande is an international statesman whose ascension to the throne of his forebears would be a good omen for the district, Kebbi State, and Nigeria in general.

He added that the enviable gesture by Dr. Idris would spur Bande to use his wealth of experience and local and international contacts to bring more development to his domain and the state.

Bagudo happily recalled that Bande was never found wanting when he managed the human and material resources of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto as its Vice-Chancellor. He added that Bande repeated the same feat at NIPSS, Kuru, Plateau State, as its Director-General.

“He also diligently, selflessly, and tirelessly worked to project the positive image of Nigeria at the UN,” the don added. Bagudo said that Bande would be fair, just, equitable, and accessible to all as the new District Head of Besse.

Responding, Governor Nasir Idris also described Bande as a relative and friend, saying, “It is a good development, and I must felicitate him. He is a man whose penchant and passion for the development of Kebbi State and Nigeria are unequaled. The composition of this high-powered delegation is a testament to the pedigree of Prof. Bande as a man of national and international standing.”

While describing Bande as the right choice for the job, the Governor added that the community and Kebbi State would not regret the decision. The Kauran Gwandu also promised to sustain the current trajectory of development of his administration despite some formidable challenges. Dr. Idris vowed, “Our government belongs to the people, and we will continue to work for them, not minding whose ox is gored.”

He also said that the government would address the dilapidated Koko-Besse, Zaria Kala Kala Road in the area, among other projects.
