The warring parties in Sudan have agreed to a 72-hour ceasefire due to start on Sunday, according to the United States (U.S.) and Saudi Arabia.

Leaders of the Sudanese army and the rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) agreed to a seven-day ceasefire from May 4 to 11, according to a statement issued by the South Sudan Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.

Members of the Sudanese armed forces have given contradictory information about a possible 24-hour ceasefire with the rival Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
