The Zambia-based Dziwa Science and Technology (DSaT),  has proposed for the appointment of an advisor to the Presidency in charge of Science and Technology in the country.

The Founder and Chief Executive Director, Ms. Veronica Mwaba made the proposal when she featured on Prime TV program dubbed, Kwacha Time.

According to her, the top-to-bottom approach will help the President know quicker, the Science and Technology activities on the ground through the advisor.

Ms. Mwaba added that the African Union (AU) has called for member States   to allocate 1% of total  Gross Domestic Product (GDP) towards research and development hence the idea of top to bottom approach.

She proposed for the establishment of a university dedicated for Science and Technology, in line with the Minister of Technology and Science’s hint last year that the Evelyn Hone College will be dedicated for Science and Technology studies.

“Everyone is still waiting for that to take effect, for the school to officially start the long awaiting assignment for learners to  bring out their research projects,” she stated.

Ms. Mwaba added that Zambia needs to invest in its own people to make contributions towards socio-economic challenges to alleviate poverty because science plays critical roles in the lives of the people.

She said that there is need to unpack the journals and researchers that are obligated to communicate their research findings so that society can appreciate the benefits of science.
