TelCables Nigeria, a subsidiary of global ICT solutions provider Angola Cables, has announced plans to establish a new Point of Presence (PoP) at the Lagos Rack Centre facility. This strategic move aims to enhance low-latency interconnectivity and Cloud access across West Africa.
Fernando Fernandes, CEO of TelCables Nigeria and West Africa, highlighted the initiative as a critical step in leveraging Angola Cables’ extensive backbone network to provide businesses and communities with faster, more affordable access to digital content and services.
“The new PoP at Rack Centre represents a significant advancement in West Africa’s digital infrastructure, delivering faster and more reliable internet access by localizing traffic for enterprises, government institutions, and individuals,” said Fernandes.
He also noted that direct access to Angola Cables’ SACS and WACS subsea cable connections will streamline data traffic routing to South America, the US, and Europe via EllaLink. This enhanced routing will offer both a standard and redundancy option to ensure uninterrupted service.
Expanding digital infrastructure
Rack Centre CEO Lars Johannisson shared updates on the Lagos campus expansion, including the nearing completion of the LGS 2 Data Centre. Once operational, the expanded facility will provide 13.5MW of IT power and 7,200 square meters of space, enabling operators like TelCables, hyperscalers, and telecom providers to securely scale their digital operations.
“The expanded facility will offer access to world-class carrier- and cloud-neutral infrastructure, fostering innovation and economic growth in Nigeria and the West Africa region,” Johannisson said.
Currently, Rack Centre Lagos hosts over 68 telecommunication carriers, ISPs, and global Tier 1 networks. The LGS 2 Data Centre has also been designed with AI readiness, providing enhanced data processing and storage capabilities crucial for organizations embracing artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Driving collaboration and growth
“TelCables, powered by Angola Cables, is committed to building resilient and efficient digital infrastructure in Nigeria and beyond,” Fernandes added. “Our partnership with Rack Centre aligns with a broader vision to make Africa a key contributor to the rapidly evolving digital economy. By working together, we are paving the way for future prosperity.”
This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to bolstering Africa’s digital ecosystem, with infrastructure upgrades poised to drive innovation, strengthen connectivity, and support economic development across the continent.
