The management of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria has approved the closure of the university in line with the directives given by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Recall that the NUC on February 3rd directed all universities in Nigeria to close for three weeks as Nigerians prepare for the 2023 general elections.
The university’s management, in a statement issued on Monday, said that the approval was given by the Senate during a meeting on Monday.
“The Senate of Ahmadu Bello University, at its 519th (Regular) meeting held today (Monday, 20th February 2023), approved the closure of the institution from Wednesday, 22nd February 2023 to Tuesday, 14th March 2023 in line with the directive of the Federal Ministry of Education.
“Accordingly, the University will close for all operations, including academic activities, from Wednesday, 22nd February 2023. It will reopen on Wednesday, 15th March 2023
“Therefore, all students are required to go home, as all academic activities would be suspended in accordance with the directive, ” the statement said.
