A former Katsina state governor, Ibrahim Shema has met with the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje.
ASHENEWS gathered that Shema’s meeting with Ganduje is preparatory to his dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling APC.
According to our source, Shema would have joined the APC before the 2023 General Election if not for Atiku’s insistence that he should remain.
“For us in His Excellency’s camp, he should have defected to the ruling APC before the general elections. He talked to us about it and we gave him our support.
“But for the respect His Excellency has for Atiku, and Atiku’s push for Shema to stay put in the PDP. But also, you know that Shema supported Dikko Radda, which gave him a wide electoral margin against his PDP opponent.
“So, Shema was actually one-leg in the PDP and one-leg in the APC. And since Atiku did not win the presidential election, the door is open for His Excellency to do whatever he likes with his political future,” the source told ASHENEWS.
ASHENEWS recalls that the former Katsina governor supported Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 Presidential Election but also supported the APC in the governorship election that produced Dikko Radda as governor.
ASHENEWS also recalls that the current Secretary to Katsina State Government, Abdullahi Faskari was Shema’s Deputy Governor.
