ASHENEWS reports that a member representing Biu/Shani/Kwaya-Kusar/Bayo federal constituency in Borno state, Mukhtar Betara has donated additional foodstuffs to his constituents.
This is in continuation of the distribution of foodstuffs, including 12,000 bags of rice and semolina to the vulnerable members of the area, which he commenced on Thursday.
Betata’s spokesperson, Aishatu Ibrahim while giving update on the ward-to-ward distribution to newsmen in Kaduna on Friday, said the member expressed gratitude on the way and manner the distribution was being carried out.
“Having realized that the vulnerable constituents are too many, Honourable Betara magnanimously ordered for additional foodstuffs comprising 8,100 bags of rice and 6,700 bags of semolina for distribution to the needy in his constituency.
“This brings the total to 14,400 bags of 25kg rice and 13,000 bags of semolina, which were all supplied through the 42 wards spread across the constituency for onward transmission to polling units for easy identification of true beneficiaries.
“In addition, the Honourable member said each beneficiary should be given the sum of N2,000 as he or she collects the foodstuffs,” Ibrahim said.
ASHENEWS recalls that the distribution of the foodstuffs started on Thursday throughout the constituency with the strict warning that only the vulnerable should be considered while those who were not reached should be patient till next time.
The distribution is an annual exercise by Betara but that this time around, it was aimed at addressing the current food crisis affecting communities.
