In the ensuing suit of alleged certificate forgery against Godwin Obaseki of Edo state, two university professors, Emmanuel Dele Balogun and Maikano Asekomhe have, in testimony against the governor, tendered exhibits, including their original degree certificates before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
The professors, who claimed to have graduated from the University of Ibadan along with Obaseki, tendered their certificates to compare with that of the governor.
Led in evidence by the lawyer to the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Akin Olujimi SAN, Balogun said he graduated from the Agricultural Economics Department in 1979, the same year Obaseki claimed to have also graduated and Asekomhe studied Banking and Finance in the same school and graduated in 1978.
They faulted the entry qualifications of three credits in ordinary level of the West African Examinations Council, WAEC and two credits in advanced level allegedly used by Obaseki to gain direct entry admission to the university in 1976.
According to them, such lower qualifications were never accepted by the institution for direct entry for admission and said they had never seen the Obaseki’s certificate in their life.
Cross examined by Chief Ken Mozia SAN, the professors also said that they were not competent to comment on the certificate they had never seen.
According to them, their evidences were based on copies of documents made available to them by the APC.
They further admitted that they had never worked at the admission department of the University of Ibadan.
Obaseki will open his defense at the court today (Tuesday).
Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed on Monday adjourned hearing in the suit to Tuesday.
