ASHENEWS reports that Niger state Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has announced a ₦320,000,000 to the 1,600 new National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members of Batch B, Stream 1 posted to the state.
The Governor who made the announcement on Tuesday while declaring the 2024 Batch B, Stream 1 orientation camp open in Paiko Paikoro local government area of the state.
According to the governor, N200,000 would be credited to the account of each of the 1,600 corps members who had registered in the camp.
The Governor stated that the gesture was to encourage the Corps members to be diligent during their service year in the state.
“I was told that there are 1,600 Corp members for this batch. I am crediting each of your accounts with N200,000.
‘This will enable you to be comfortable to stay in Niger state. This is to show you that there is prosperity in Niger state.
“I will do my best to ensure that Corpers enjoy serving in Niger state,” the governor said.
The announcement of the bonus was greeted with loud cheers and applause by the Corps members.
The Governor also announced automatic employment for Corps members in the medical and health field saying that there are also opportunities available for the Corps members who want to go into agriculture as they can earn as much as N500,000 monthly.
For the welfare of the Corp members in camp, Bago approved 20 cows and one trailer load of rice while he gave orders for the building of more toilets and drilling of five additional boreholes in the temporary camp to take care of their hygiene and sanitation.
The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier-General Yusha’u Ahmed applauded the bonus given by the Niger state Governor to the Corp members.
He said that this gesture would encourage the Corpers to put in their best in serving the state.
He called on other Governors to emulate the step taken by the Niger state Governor while assuring the Corp members of their safety and security as they serve across the state.
