ASHENEWS reports that the Niger state governor, Mohammed Bago has commissioned 200 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) powered buses in fulfilment of the government’s pledge to cushion the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy.
Speaking during the event held on Wednesday at the Trade Fair Complex in Minna, Bago said that the initiative was in line with his administration’s commitment to reducing emissions and promoting a green economy.
The governor said that the state government intends to increase the number of buses to 1,000 in six months.
He also announced a plan to procure 1,000 electric vehicles for women and youth in Niger state.
According to the governor, the buses would provide free transportation to students of basic, secondary and tertiary institutions in Niger state.
He said that the buses would also provide such free services to healthcare workers and security personnel.
Bago, who stressed that his administration remains committed to the welfare of its citizens announced the approval of N25 billion for payment of outstanding pensions and gratuities to beneficiaries in the state.
He equally approved the implementation of promotions to every civil servant due to the upgrade in the state.
This online platform reports that the governor also commissioned operational vehicles for security personnel, garbage disposal trucks as well as transformers.
