ASHENEWS reports that the Governor-elect in Niger State, Umar Mohammed Bago has inaugurated an essay writing competition for students of secondary schools across Niger State.
The competition intends to encourage education and promote creativity while welcoming suggestions from teenagers on their dreams for the state.
The participant whose essay makes the first position will receive a Mini Laptop, while the second and third place winners will get an Android Tablet Device and an Android Phone respectively.
A statement issued by the Office of the Governor-elect on Monday said that winners would be announced during the celebration of this year’s Children’s Day, on May 27th.
“The competition, which is open to all secondary school students, encourages participants to think critically about the state’s most pressing issues and write a 1,000-word essay on “the Niger State I Want.”
“This essay competition is the first of its kind, where a Governor-elect is organizing a competition to encourage education, promote creativity, and welcome suggestions from teenagers on their dreams for their state,” the statement said.
On his part, the Governor-elect said that the initiative would not only build the writing skills of students but will also avail young people the opportunity to make their inputs in governance through the suggestions included in their essays.
“We want to hear from our young people about what their dreams are. We want to encourage them to showcase their writing skills as a way of developing them. They are the future of our state, and their ideas and perspectives are invaluable. This essay competition is a great opportunity for them to share their thoughts on the challenges and opportunities facing our state and suggest solutions.
“I am looking forward to reading the submissions,” Bago said.
