Bandits have shot dead the district head of Yankuzo, Kogo Hamza in Tsafe local government area of Zamfara state.
Yankuzo is the hometown of the bandits’ leader, Ado Aliero who was declared wanted by the military.
Hamza was shot in the bandits attempt to abduct him along Tsafe Yankuzo-road on Saturday.
The traditional ruler was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Gusau where he died Saturday night while receiving treatment.
A resident of the area, Audu Mohammed told Analyzer news that Hamza was attacked while he was returning home after a meeting with the Emir of Tsafe.
“The bandits wanted to abduct him but he refused to stop.
“They chased him and opened fire on his car where he sustained injuries as a result of the gunshots.
“He was rushed to Tsafe General Hospital and later transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Gusau where he finally died on Saturday night,” Mohammed said.
Confirming the incident to ASHENEWS’ inquiry, the spokesperson of Zamfara Police Command, SP Mohammed Shehu said “Yes, this is true. The command had dispatched its men to trail the bandits.”
