Youths group decry increase in fuel pump price

A youth group, Noble Youth Mass Support Association (NYMSA), has decried the increase in pump price of premium motor spirit (PMS) by the Federal government.

Hon. Godwin Onmonya, the National Coordinator of the group made the call in an interview with the newsmen in Abuja on Friday.

Onmonya urged the FG to rescind its decision, noting that the fuel increase, would result to increase in public transportation and high cost of businesses that use fuel as their source of power supply.

According to him, the increase would further impoverish people, adding that the government should have waited for Nigerians to recover from the lockdown, before increasing pump price of fuel.

“So many people have not worked for more than three months now and they are increasing pump price of fuel, where will they get money to pay transport fare.

“The government should have allowed the N123 price regime to remain for a while, to cushion the effect of the lockdown on people, who have not been working.

“They don’t know what people are passing through, because they use public funds to fuel their cars and run their generators,” he said.

He maintained that so many families will be affected by the increase, stressing that money meant for food would now be used to procure fuel, which has become a necessity in Nigeria.

He however condemned the increase and urged the federal government to immediately reverse the policy in the interest of the masses.

The Federal government had on Thursday, increased the price of petrol to N151.56 per litre, a development that has generated condemnation from members of the public.
